The manor and surrounding acreage are spectacular. We very much enjoyed walking the property, seeing the horses, and observing the clever chickens. The evening meal was wonderful if a bit pricey (and really, adding another $10. for coffee?) The staff were very nice and we appreciated the willingness to help with requests. However, our standard room was small and could have used more hand towels, a blow dryer, and a better mirror. Things that were great included the fluffy robes, wonderful views from every window, the library, fantastic morning coffee and breakfast. Thank you.
The reading room had an amazing ceiling papered with handmade paper flowers. We could not find two flowers that were the same among all the gold and white flowers. The library has all of Tom Clancy books!
Perfect spot to relax. Quiet atmosphere and a beautiful backdrop. We did not get to experience dinner however we will make a point of it the next time because breakfast was outstanding. Staff was exceptional, kind and attentive. Room was clean and nicely appointed. Felt just like home. Can't wait to return.
We arrive shortly after 3:00 PM at the Glen Gordon Manor. It was a sunny and hot early October day. After revealing our anniversary plans to our hostess Chelsea we were provided a glass of champagne and a tour of the manor. Some time during the tour we elected to have the Manor's 5 course dinner at 7 PM. There was a mystery empty fruit bowl at the entrance, which was not empty at closer inspection.
This was our second visit to Glen Gordon Manor. After our first visit, which exceeded expectations, we knew it would not be long before we returned. So just a few months later, when I was in need of a peaceful, restorative weekend, we knew exactly where to go. There is something about this place that just calms and revitalizes your mind, body and soul. It's more than just a beautiful place (and that it is!). It's a retreat. It truly is the most peaceful place I have ever been. The accommodations are spectacular (rooms, grounds, etc.), the food is insanely delicious, fresh, creative and simple and the people are so warm, inviting and welcoming. You will always feel comfortable and at home here. I cannot thank you all enough for how I feel after a visit. Looking forward to our next visit!
Since it was still hot outside we donned swim wear and used the tour short cut to go to the pool. The water was refreshing. After basking in the sun, ok napping, we walked about the manor working up our appetite for dinner.
From the beautifully decorated rooms with modern, upscale bathrooms, showers and soaking tubs to the lavish, high-quality bath and bed linens to the ultra-comfortable king beds to the 5-star gourmet breakfasts and dinners we were very impressed and very comfortable. The inn sits back on a hillside, away from any noise whatsoever. There are beautiful horses and a brood of very entertaining chickens which lay fresh eggs for breakfast every day. We loved the grounds which provide wonderful walking paths for morning strolls and a scenic setting for enjoying sunsets on the front patio, by the beautiful swimming pool or by the horse paddocks. The gardener picked apples for us to feed to the horses in the morning from the orchards on premises and we enjoyed wine before and after dinner from the ample wine cellar. This is an historic property which was frequented by King Edward VIII and his last wife, Wallis Simpson and was the summer home of one of Virginia's first millionaire's from the North after the Civil War. A very interesting property now in the hands of a very capable innkeeper and five-star chef. You will love your stay here. We look forward to returning soon!
Dinner was the best meal we ever had. I even liked the cauliflower which I never eat.
